2012. Starting off with a bang. BigFoot Bread News!

Farmers Markets – Winter Season

Lloyd Farmers Market – Starting back January 17th thru the end of the year on Tuesdays (see locations for directions and times)
Oregon City Farmers Markets – every other Saturday (1st and 3rd) thru the end of April (see locations for directions and times)
Hillsdale Farmers Market – every other Sunday (1st and 3rd) thru the end of April (see locations for directions and times)

Grocery Markets

Food Front NW – 23rd & Thurman – we now deliver Focaccias and English Muffins – Started January 11th
Food Front Hillsdale – Capitol Highway near Wilson H.S. – we will deliver soon
Sheridan Fruit Company – MLK JR Blvd & Oak – we will deliver soon
Alberta Co-op – Alberta & NE 15th – check back in a month

I have applied to the Woodstock Farmers Market and will check into the Milwaukie Farmers Market as well. I am hoping to expand our markets this next season from the traditional 4 to 6. We will return to Forest Grove Farmers Market when it resumes in May 2012.

The website is currently being updated with new photos on our products page, new locations on the locations page and an online order form for anyone who wishes to place an online order for delivery. I will deliver to your house if you live in a 10 mile radius of any of our farmers markets – order $10 or more for free delivery otherwise there is a $5 delivery fee.

WOWZERS DID I DROP THE BALL

This month came and went. Christmas was here and now it’s gone. Happy Seasons to all and to all a good year!

No, I did not make something with bacon.
No, I did not make waffles.

Yes, we are getting into local co-ops.
Yes, we are making cheesecakes.
Yes, we did run ads with our coffeecake in conjuction with Nectar Coffee and yes it was a success.

2011 is about to end and we’re working on new labels, new packaging (going green with the granola that will now come in 2 different sizes) and we’ll be getting our act together to face 2012 with more opportunities to get our yummy bread products.

New Products, New Ideas, New Employee

Generally I don’t talk about a new employee this early in the process because frankly I jinx a jinxed jinx and may cause irreparable damage to an already damaged reputation. Who am I kidding? This is me we’re talking about. Matt is the new dude. He’s young. He’s intelligent. He’s zany. He’s a perfect fit. So what’s going on with this dude? He’s gonna push me to get going – get us going – get BigFoot going somewhere it should have been a year ago.

So. We are making New Products. We will make cheesecake – mini cheesecakes. The pumpkin swirl cheesecake sold out at Hillsdale Farmers Market on Sunday. Expect to see more of them through the end of the year at Hillsdale. I also make a mean chocolate swirl, so that’s the first week of December.

Yes, it’s about time – something new with bacon. Expect it also the first week of December. And we’re making waffles – to be tested by my neighbors this next week. We’ll let you know how it works because if you see them for sale that means the testing went well.

New Ideas? New signage. New packaging. New table. And a new display. All coming soon. I got lots to do and I can’t do it without my trusted new dude. Here’s hoping we both survive the winter.

FEATURED!!!!

A month ago we had some visitors come to the Oregon City Farmers Market from Vermont. They were an earthy group of folks, the kind of young people who were energized by the spirit of the market and had lots of questions about local, sustainability and the issues we have to deal with regarding government, licensing and the calamity known as the ODA.

It was nice to converse with these nice people because they were intelligent and obviously from a different part of the country. They purchased a couple of bread products and then as they stepped away I thought I would be nice to give the one young man with nothing in his hands a bag of Ana’s Apple/Almond Granola. He politely accepted and away they went.

Tonight I was surfing the net and Googled “BigFoot Bread” and this is what I found:

“The Oregon City market is similar to Rutland’s Downtown Farmers’ Market, though on a smaller scale. I was happy to find the same community spirit that I’m used to in Vermont. At the BigFoot Bread stand, I fell easily into a conversation with Greg about small businesses, federal regulations, and Potluck in the Park—a nonprofit working on food security issues in Portland. After we said our goodbyes with English muffins and cinnamon rolls in hand, Greg chased Joe down and offered him a bag of homemade apple and almond granola. He figured we were from granola-head Vermont so we should have some. Awesome!” – Market Watch*

It’s nice to make a connection with people who are like minded even if they are an entire continent away. I’m hoping they enjoyed their bread and granola and perhaps one day we might meet again but this time in Vermont when the leaves are turning and the air is brisk. Perhaps I’ll make a few purchases at their farmers market and we can take up a very different conversation – one of merriment, good cheer and enjoy their spirit of the Farmers Market where they live. And perhaps I’ll take on my own adventure as they did and explore a unique land in New England a place I’ve never been but only read about in books.

Yes, indeed, I feel a change of scenery would do me a bit of good.
